What is DPC Healthcare?

DPC stands for Direct Primary Care. It is an alternative healthcare model that removes insurance companies from the doctor-patient relationship. Instead of billing your insurance company, you pay your primary care physician for your treatments.

Most DPC clinics, including Wong Medical Clinic, use a monthly membership plan to cover the costs of your basic primary care, including wellness visits, sick visits, and urgent care. Additional services, such as labs and prescription refills, are available at a discounted rate, often less than what you'd pay through your insurance company.

  • Why should I pay for a doctor monthly when I only go a few times a year?
Eventually, everyone needs medical care. But, unfortunately, you can’t predict when that will happen. Paying a low monthly fee gives you the security of knowing you have primary care whenever you need it. It also ensures you continue to work with a doctor who knows you and your medical history instead of bouncing from one doctor to the next in rushed appointments. You can call, text, or email Dr. Wong whenever you need, giving you more access to your doctor than you'd experience in a traditional healthcare model. The monthly fee also unlocks additional savings on labs, imaging, and prescriptions, helping you save on medical care when needed.
  • What are the benefits of direct primary care?
There are many benefits, including: Extended appointments, Same-day and next-day appointments Seeing the same doctor every time and building a solid relationship with them Substantial savings on medical costs, with discounts of up to 90% on labs and medications Transparent pricing on all services with no co-pays or hidden fees
  • Is this concierge medicine?
While there are similarities between concierge medicine and the DPC model, they are not the same thing. Typically, concierge practices charge patients an annual retainer ranging from $1,600 to $2,400 a year. They also bill insurance. In contrast, direct care practices do not bill insurance for services provided or require an annual retainer. As a result, they are generally more affordable than concierge medicine practices.
  • Do I need insurance to be a member?
No, insurance is not required for membership. However, we do recommend having insurance to comply with federal law. Wong Medical Clinic is not a replacement for health insurance. While being a member of our practice covers your primary care needs, it does not cover the costs of hospitalizations, major surgery, or specialist care. Therefore, you will need insurance to cover the costs of these expenses. In our experience, direct primary care pairs well with a high-deductible health insurance plan to ensure adequate coverage for all your healthcare and medical needs.
  • Can I use DPC healthcare if I'm on Medicare?
Absolutely! Medicare patients are welcome at Wong Medical Clinic. The DPC healthcare model is an excellent complement to Medicare. However, you'll need to pay the monthly fee in addition to your Medicare fees. For patients aged 65 or older, that monthly fee is $105. You can see everything that includes on our website. We do not bill Medicare for any of your treatments.
  • Do you take insurance?
We do not accept insurance and will not bill your insurer for treatment. However, we welcome anyone with insurance seeking more personalized healthcare.
  • Should I still have insurance coverage?
The DPC healthcare model works very well with high-deductible insurance plans. These plans usually have a low monthly payment. Many DPC patients carry additional health insurance to help cover medical emergencies and specialist care. Additional insurance ensures you have medical coverage for treatment outside our office, such as for cancer care or in the emergency room. You should research your insurance options or speak to an insurance broker to determine which coverage works best for your situation.
  • Can I continue to use my current insurance? Can it be used?
Not for the services provided by Wong Medical Clinic, we do not bill or accept insurance. We will work with you to provide you the most cost effective health care. You can still choose to use your insurance for labs, imaging and medications.
  • What if I get a serious medical illness, need surgery, or need to see a specialist?
These are all reasons to have a high-deductible insurance policy. Your insurance will act as a safety net for serious and emergency medical services. *Note: HMO insurance plans can be challenging to work with DPC, as we are not part of an insurance network.
  • What does it mean when you say, "we are able to provide price transparency?"
Price transparency means what you see is what you get –no more co-pays, surprise bills in the mail, or hidden fees! In the Direct Primary Care model, you pay an affordable monthly membership fee and upfront pricing for additional services, such as labs, medications, and procedures. As a result, you will always know what your bill will be before you agree to services.
  • I own a small business. Can the direct primary care model help me?
We may be able to save you money while providing quality care to your employees. Please contact our office to learn more about our options for businesses.
  • What if I decide to cancel?
We make it easy for our patients. If you want to cancel at any time, for any reason, just let us know. We request 30 days' notice for cancellations. If you cancel and decide to rejoin later, you will need to pay the enrollment fee. Also, we only take a limited number of patients to ensure quality care, so we cannot guarantee availability if you decide to join later. In this case, we will place you on a waiting list. Have more questions? Please contact us! We are happy to share as much information as you need to decide whether Wong Medical Clinic is right for your healthcare needs.
